Jordin Sparks, determined to maintain her virginity until she’s married, had no idea how controversial her “slut” comment during the VMAs would be at the time. Still, she doesn’t regret her words.
Jordin, 18, made news when she responded to VMA host Russell Brand’s continual jokes about the purity rings worn by the Jonas Bros. trio by saying, “It’s not bad to wear a promise ring because not everybody, guy or girl, wants to be a slut.”
Jordin herself proudly wears a promise ring. Although plenty of fans supported her, there were the haters who were upset by the implication that those who don’t abstain are sluts.
Speaking from her home in Phoenix to a reporter in Australia, where the singer heads next week for a promotional visit, Sparks said she has no regrets about what she said. But she admits she was “scared out of my mind” of people’s reactions.
