Rockstar Games, which makes the action roleplay simulation, was rumored to have signed a deal with a major film studio to turn the game into a blockbuster movie.
And rap superstar Eminem was reported to have been lined up for the lead role.
But now the company has declared they never intended to make a film.
Dan Houser, vice president of creative at Rockstar, tells MTV.com, "Some movie producers were trying to put something together to entice us to make a movie, as studios and production teams frequently have done in the past. This proposal was no more interesting than the numerous others we receive. We never entertained proceeding with the project.
"Rockstar was not involved in this project in any way, shape or form. It is not something we are currently interested in."
