Beginning in the early 1970s and lasting for years, “The Soul Train” was the only nationally syndicated music entertainment show available to Black America. The creative mind behind “the hippest trip in America” was Don Cornelius. But Cornelius has not produced any new episodes of the dance show since 2006.
Nevertheless, the 71-year-old Cornelius completed a deal last week to sell the brand to MadVision Entertainment – a multimedia company which specializes in entertainment shows with an urban or Black content. MadVison has suggested that it will begin producing new shows soon. Cornelius told the Hollywood Reporter: “After years of offers, I feel the time is now finally right to pass on the torch.”
