Beyonce's Father Defends Her

Beyonce Knowles' father, Mathew, has defended his daughter after she referred to Tina Turner, not Aretha Franklin, as the "Queen" during their duet performance at the 50th Annual Grammy Awards on Sunday.

Beyonce joined Tina Turner onstage at the Grammys, and the pair gave an energetic performance of Turner's "Proud Mary."

Franklin was reportedly offended by Beyonce's comment. She said in a statement following the awards ceremony, "I am not sure of whose toes I may have stepped on or whose ego I may have bruised between the Grammy writers and Beyoncé, however I dismissed it as a cheap shot for controversy.

"In addition to that, I thank the Grammys and the voting academy for my 20th Grammy and love to Beyonce anyway."

But Mathew Knowles stands beside his daughter.

"Something this ridiculous – it's childish, it's unprofessional," he said Thursday in a statement.

"And it's a sad day when egos get bruise because somebody used the word king, queen, prince or princess."
